Two shocking accidents that led to a loss of life rocked Virginia Beach on Monday. One the same day, a pedestrian was killed just over the city border in Norfolk.
With two fatal accidents occurring only hours apart, Monday was a dangerous day to be out on the roads. All of us at Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers are saddened after hearing about these two terrible accidents.
Several local news reports state that around 2:30pm a small Nissan Sentra broke down and came to a stop in one of the travel lanes of Interstate 264, just after the Rosemont Road exit. An oncoming Chevrolet Silverado 2500 work truck rear-ended the broken down Nissan, causing it to spin into an out of service Hampton Roads Transit Bus. The Nissan burst into flames.
Navy corpsman Tom Gentry stopped at the scene of the crash. Gentry promptly pulled the unconscious driver, a 31-year-old woman, out of the vehicle as the fire began to spread, the Virginian-Pilot reported. The other passengers in the car included a 28-year-old man, a 2-year-old girl, and a 5-month-old infant. Unfortunately, rescuers were not able to save the infant due to the rapidly-spreading fire
Later on May 16th, the driver of a Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck collided with a Lexus sedan that was coming to a stop for a red light at the intersection of Northampton Boulevard and Pleasure House Road in Virginia Beach. The driver of the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger sustained injuries. The driver of the pickup truck has been charged with reckless driving.
On the same day, WAVY.com reported that a 65-year-old man had died of injuries he sustained after being hit by a pickup truck near Curlew Drive and Newtown Road on Monday morning.
He was identified as Vernon Calvin Hall Jr., 65. Although his condition was originally reported as being stable, he later succumbed to his injuries.
A day later 17 people, including 15 children, were injured when a Norfolk school bus crashed on Indian River Road in Virginia Beach. We were relieved to read all of the injuries were described as minor and the students were released from the hospital on the same day, WAVY.com reported.
